Description of Inflorescence and Flower : panicle of 3 racemeswith large spathe-like bracts, usually on separate leaflessbranches; rachis smooth, slender, jointed with paperybracts at the joints; bracts ca. 5.5 cm long and 1.5 cm broad,striate, golden yellow, ending into a callus with bristleson both sides and foliaceous; imperfect blade encloses 3-5pedicellate spikelets. Spikelet ca. 3 cm long,6-flowered, theupper one is imperfect; rachilla ca. 4 mm long, clavate,ciliate on the margin and tip. Empty glumes 2, oblonglanceolate, keeled, membranous, tip ciliate and longmucronate, outer glume ca. 10 mm long, 3-nerved, innerglume ca. 15 mm long and 5-nerved; lemma ca. 20 mm longand 4 mm broad, ovate, tessellate, scabrous on the edges,dark coloured, 7-nerved, tip ciliate, aristate; palea ca. 10 mmlong, 2-keeled, ciliate on the keels, tip bimucronate,ciliate; lodicule 3, ca. 2 mm long, ovate-lanceolate, acute, 3-nerved, ciliate, one narrower than the other 2; stamens 3; anther ca. 6 mm long, purple, basifixed, tip bifid and blunt,filament short. Ovary ovoid, glabrous, 2-4 mm long, style short, divided into 3 feathery stigmas.
